As a buyer you’ll work alongside designers, merchandisers and technologists
to identify new product trends, maximise sales and achieve profit targets by developing
quality products at competitive prices.
You’ll have to consider customer profile, lead times, selling price and margin
when creating balanced ranges. Not to mention key colour, shape, fabric and style
trends. So, with lots to think about, you’ll often be under the pressure of
conflicting priorities.
Which is why your commercial sense will prove just as important as your fashion
sense. As you’ll be negotiating costs with suppliers and presenting your ranges
to your Managers and Directors, you’ll also need great communication skills and the confidence
to get all your bright ideas across. A fashion based degree is also preferable.
