Why choose Next?
We are looking for an exceptional transport leader to become part of our dynamic and growing business.
Next is one of the biggest and best known online and high street retailers in the UK. At the heart of our operation we have a state of the art Warehousing and Logistics business employing more than 9,000 people across our network, with ambitious growth plans.
The Central Transport Operation is integral to ensure we meet the growth in demand and our customer’s expectations, by delivering our worldwide online offer and keeping the 500+ retail stores stocked. It’s exceptionally fast-paced and our teams have to constantly adapt and innovate to ever-changing demands.
You’ll be joining a business which pushes boundaries and pioneers the way. A lot has changed here at Next over the last four decades, but one thing has remained constant; a strong people culture, built around a solid set of company values.
About the Role
As Transport Deputy Site Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that we maintain an effective and productive and legally compliant transport operation. This is a key role within the Transport senior team; you will be the senior leader responsible for our Dearne operation and play a key role within the whole Central Transport Operation of around 500 colleagues. By supporting and deputising for the Transport Site Manager, you will provide senior and consistent operational leadership.
You will be named on the Operator’s Licence and will maintain the O-licence for your sites and support other sites with theirs. By completing regular and thorough internal audits, training your team to ensure they understand all expectations and processes and keeping up to speed with Traffic Commissioner updates, you will be responsible for ensuring we maintain our O-licence and are running a legally compliant operation at all times.
As an experienced senior transport manager, you will be directly responsible for managing a team of over 100 people at Dearne Valley. Effective communication and positive relationship building skills are critical. You will have a proven ability to develop your management team to become self-sufficient by providing effective leadership, motivation and direction to empower them to make effective decisions and achieve success.
We operate a large, fast-paced, 24/7 operation and you are wholly accountable for ensuring that all performance deliverables, KPI’s and operational deadlines are met by effective review of weekly, monthly and seasonal events to ensure appropriate planning and control of resources, fleet capacity, agency usage and CPC training, implementing robust action plans to deliver the required performance.
Drawing on your previous management experience in a similar role, you will use your extensive operational knowledge to ensure we achieve all targets whilst ensuring that safety remains the top priority. Working closely with the Senior Management Team in warehousing and across the business, you will naturally identify and drive continuous improvements to meet our ambitious plans for the future of Next Distribution.
We are looking for a strong and positive leader, able to manage multiple projects, priorities and people. Leading by example, you will be highly motivated, with the vision and capability to see and understand the bigger picture, instrumental in leading and driving change.
Alongside your significant experience in a senior management role within operational transport, or within retail and online distribution, you will possess a Transport Management CPC and have a proven track record of leading large teams of over 100.
