Life at Next

Next is one of the UK’s best known retailers on the high-street and most established online. Behind the scenes we are at the cutting edge of Warehousing and Logistics, employing more than 9000 people across our distribution network.

Life at Next is fast-paced, varied and challenging and takes a large, talented and efficient operation to keep our 500+ retail stores stocked, deliver our worldwide online offer and strengthen the growing partnerships with over 1,000 brands and the third party customers using the Next’s Total Platform.

Let’s take it on

Our in-house Driving Academy is committed to providing a first class training experience. Drivers are at the heart of our transport operation and providing the highest level of training and development to them is key to our continued success.

The Driver Development Coach supports the Transport Management Team in ensuring that Next’s drivers maintain the highest standards of health & safety, by increasing the general awareness of road safety and focusing on reducing road traffic accidents by teaching defensive driving. The DDC will coach drivers to use fuel efficient driving techniques, in order to meet operational targets. You will ensure drivers’ licences are checked in line with Company procedures and keep up to date with workplace legislation in order to be a department expert, ensuring all training guidelines and risk assessments are in line with current legislation

As a Driver Development Coach at Next Distribution, you will be responsible for planning and delivering inductions for all new permanent and agency drivers. In addition, you will provide ongoing training to the Driver population; this includes general driving assessments to ensure all standards are met and areas for improvement identified plus post accident training and assessment. You will complete all training and assessment documentation in line with Company policies and procedures. You will deliver CPC training to our LGV Drivers with a mixture of both online and in class sessions.

As part of the Driving Academy team you will support our Risk and Compliance Officer with reviewing store delivery points and our new Total Platform clients delivery points.

Our Distribution network operates 24 hours a day, meaning you will need to occasionally adjust your normal working hours to support the continued development of our drivers. There may be times where supporting other Regional Service Centres may be required, therefore an element of travel could be expected.
