Summary

Working Pattern: Typically 5 days in the office, with core hours flexible between 8am-6pm.

The Role
As a Senior Designer for Menswear Casual Shirts, you’ll be the strategic lead behind one of our most iconic categories. Your mission is to blend global street-style with commercial excellence, evolving everything from rugged overshirts to trend-led prints.

By bridging the gap between creative vision and global production, you’ll make a tangible impact on the range alongside a team of Buyers, Merch & Tech!
To help you lead with confidence, Next offers a comprehensive induction, supported by industry-leading trend resources and a collaborative environment designed to champion your creative autonomy.

Our Designers here at Next are always looking forward. Looking for that Next thing, focusing on trend and pushing the boundaries of what we can offer our fantastic customer base. Working as a key part of the critical path; creating new and innovative designs across.

What You’ll Take On
As our Senior Designer for Menswear Casual Shirts, you’ll be the strategic lead behind one of our most iconic and high volume categories. You are the creative engine that transforms global street-style into the elevated, versatile shirting our customers rely on, ensuring every piece reflects the premium quality and effortless aesthetic of the Next brand.

In this role, your day-to-day will involve:

  • Strategising the Shirts Range: Lead the end-to-end design process for the menswear casual shirting category, expertly balancing trend-led statement pieces with commercially driven core essentials.
  • Translating Global Trends: Scour international street-style and runway movements to design "must-have" shirts from rugged overshirts to refined, soft-handle prints that resonate with the modern man.
  • Leading with Agility: Thrive in a fast-paced environment by responding decisively to creative briefs and delivering high-impact designs that keep our collections ahead of the curve.
  • Balancing Design with Commerciality: Work strategically within price-point guidelines to ensure we deliver exceptional value without compromising on fabric quality or craftsmanship.
  • Collaborating for Excellence: Partner closely with Buyers, Merchandisers, and our Technologist teams to ensure every collar, cuff, and fit is technically precise and production-ready.
  • Driving Category Innovation: Shape the creative direction for both high-energy capsule drops and the foundational lines that define the Next man’s wardrobe.

What You’ll Bring

  • Menswear Shifting Expertise: You have a solid background in menswear, with a specific focus on casual shirting. You understand the nuances of different weights, weaves, and laundries, from rugged brushed flannels to crisp poplins and relaxed overshirts.
  • Technical Artistry: You are a pro at using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. You can create precise, detailed technical packs that clearly communicate construction, pocket details, and trim specifications to our global partners.
  • A Trend-First Mindset: You are genuinely obsessed with menswear trends and global street-style. You know how to translate "of-the-moment" looks into commercially successful shirts that resonate with the Next customer.
  • Clear & Proactive Communication: You’re a natural collaborator who builds strong relationships. Whether you’re refining a collar shape with an overseas factory or presenting a new seasonal palette, you communicate with clarity and warmth.
  • Commercial Sharpness: You understand that great design lives at the intersection of creativity and business. You can design into specific price points and navigate fabric yields without losing your aesthetic edge.
  • Agility & Organisation: You stay grounded and organised even when the studio gets busy. You’re comfortable handling fast-turnaround "express" briefs and can pivot quickly as trends evolve, all while maintaining a positive, "can-do" attitude.

A Quick Note: We can’t wait to see your style!
Please ensure you attach your digital PDF portfolio to your application, as we won’t be able to consider your journey with us without it. We are looking for work that is trend-focused, demonstrating your ability to translate high-fashion concepts into commercially successful, elevated designs for the Menswear casual shirts market!
