About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Multiproduct Garment Technologist to join our very talented Technical team. This role will be based at the Next Head Office in central London, working Hybrid between office/ home. You will own the technical development across multiple categories, working closely with our Buying and Design teams to proactively manage quality assurance and identify any manufacturing or performance risks and escalate these. You will apply a deep understanding of product construction, material capabilities, and performance to achieve high-quality products that maintain brand integrity.
Role Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Technical Development
- Work closely with Buying and Design to progress effective product development and proactively manage quality assurance.
- Take responsibility for solving quality issues in the most cost-effective and profit-conscious way while maintaining customer focus.
- Own the technical development of products, applying knowledge of construction, finishes, and material performance.
- Lead fit sessions to ensure accuracy of information and product compliance with NEXT WOB standards.
- Evaluate test reports and advise on solutions for failing materials.
- Reduce customer returns by evaluating data and implementing product improvements.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Carry out risk assessments to ensure overall product compliance and safety.
- Ensure all products are fit for purpose and meet all relevant Legal and Health & Safety standards.
- Identify manufacturing or performance risks and escalate these appropriately.
- Ensure suppliers understand and comply with NEXT WOB technical standards, policies, and the NEXT Code of Practice.
Operational Excellence & Collaboration
- Manage the product approval and sealing process, communicating clearly with necessary teams and suppliers.
- Work to key dates and guidelines driven by the critical path.
- Initiate product comparisons and benchmarking against competitors in line with industry innovation.
- Manage and participate in technical projects from concept to completion.
- Build effective relationships and engage with colleagues and suppliers at all levels.
Your Talent
- Experienced Garment Technologist with sufficient experience in a similar role.
- Experience dealing with a broad supply base, including overseas suppliers.
- Proficient in Excel and comfortable using various internal business systems.
- Excellent communication in written and verbal correspondence.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a professional and approachable manner.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Highly adaptable and able to thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment.
