Summary

The role

As a Retoucher at NEXT, you will be at the heart of our Photo Studio, responsible for producing the high-quality, colour-accurate imagery that brings our online platforms to life.

You will make a real difference by ensuring brand consistency and visual excellence, blending traditional retouching techniques with a proactive approach to the latest AI-powered tools. Working closely with our Creative, Operations, and Shoot Teams, you will help deliver exceptional visual content that meets our creative briefs. To help you get started and continue growing, we support training initiatives where you can develop your technical and creative skills alongside our Senior Retouchers.

This is a 12 month maternity cover position.

What you'll take on

Perform high-level retouching on diverse photographic assets, including product shots, still life, and lifestyle imagery, ensuring you meet studio guidelines and creative requirements.

Meticulously colour-match against physical and digital swatches, applying expert grading and correcting poor balance to ensure accurate reproduction across all platforms.

Proactively research, test, and integrate AI-powered tools—such as generative fill and style transfer—to enhance creative possibilities and constantly improve retouching processes.

Carry out thorough quality checks to ensure all retouched imagery meets NEXT’s high standards, brand guidelines, and in-house style guides.

Work seamlessly with Photographers, Art Directors, and Stylists to understand project needs, suggest optimal image capture methods, and maintain open communication regarding workloads or potential delays.

Maintain studio assets using our Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, ensuring correct file naming and precise database tracking.

Offer technical retouching guidance to fellow team members, attend pre-shoot meetings to agree on necessary actions, and help maintain a tidy workspace and calibrated IT equipment.

What you'll bring

Proven background as a Retoucher within a fashion or home industry and an eCommerce Photo Studio environment.

Expert proficiency in Adobe Photoshop alongside a solid grasp of image capture, photography, and studio lighting principles.

Demonstrated experience in precise colour correction using both digital and physical swatches.

A strong understanding of AI-powered image editing tools and how to apply them professionally, paired with knowledge of various image formats and resolutions for web and print outputs.

Exceptional time-management skills to prioritise tasks, multitask effectively, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

Excellent attention to detail, a passion for visual composition, and the ability to take creative direction smoothly.

A solution-oriented mindset with the ability to monitor daily activity, clearly communicate potential issues, and suggest ongoing process improvements.

A professional, positive, and highly motivated attitude, ready to receive feedback constructively and work flexibly both independently and alongside new teams.
